A Culture of Inclusion

Empowering Education and Awareness of Trans Inclusion in our Congregation

The First UU Welcoming Congregation Committee is encouraging all members and friends to complete the “Trans Inclusion in Congregations” course offered by the UUA Transforming Hearts Collective. In doing this work we will develop meaningful connections and awareness of issues faced by LGBT+ individuals. Ultimately, it is in our hands as a congregation to educate ourselves, using valuable resources, to ensure we are as welcoming as we aspire to be.

About the Course:

This six-session asynchronous online course is available to all members and friends of our congregation. The course can be completed at an individual pace. Each class begins with a forty-five to sixty-minute video of a conversational lecture with Rev. Mykal Slack & Zr. Alex Kapitan and also includes links to additional resources for participants to explore to their own satisfaction. Each class then has a short quiz and also an option to comment and respond to the comments of others who have participated. At the end of the six sessions, the class will tell you that you have completed the series.

First UU will host a private Facebook Group dedicated to the discussion of this course. Those who have completed the course will have the option to remain in the group to discuss and scaffold conversations with those who participate later. People who are interested in participating in groups or with accountability partners can connect via this group. The group will only be open to members and friends of First UU.
